Path of the Space Viking Barbarian

After putting together the Circle of Horrors Druid for a wink wink nudge nudge at the D&D movie owlbear druid, I thought we could keep going. So, to celebrate the release of Spelljammer and a little move called Thor: Love & Thunder, here is the Path of the Space Viking. This subclass is designed for maximum fun. Throw your weapon while you fly around, cause your enemies to explode in electricity and laugh off failure. We’ve kept a lightning theme but you could easily swap the damage over to radiant, if that fits your image of rampaging astral barbarians. I think this one is a blast to play - how about you?

It’s available now in the shop and is free for everyone to download!

Overview

The Path of the Space Viking is for barbarians eager to embrace adventure, boldness and the unknown. In addition to their significant control of lightning, the majestic Rainbow Weapon is the Space Viking’s most iconic power. These individuals are often dashing scoundrels, noble warriors or adventure-seeking daredevils. Though a Space Viking is most often found gallivanting about the cosmos engaged with all sorts of eclectic oddities, they can be found anywhere that holds promise of glory. These barbarians are prone to theatrical combat styles and dramatic personalities, surrounded by rainbows and lightning.

Rainbow Weapon

3rd-level Path of the Space Viking feature

You’re able to magically empower your weapon with the strength of your elders and the power of the cosmos. When you rage, choose a melee weapon that you’re holding. It gains the thrown property with a normal range of 20 feet and a long range of 60 feet for you until the rage ends. After you make a ranged attack with this weapon, the weapon instantly flies back to your hand.

As a bonus action on each of your turns while raging, you can cause lightning to burst from a creature that you hit with this weapon. The creature and creatures of your choice within 5 feet of it must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 1d4 lightning damage. This damage increases when you reach certain levels in this class, increasing to 1d6 at 9th level, 1d8 at 13th level and 1d10 at 17th level.

The DC equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier.
